The most common response I receive regarding a Breakthrough project is:
"I want to do it, but how do I pay for it?"
I've worked with dozens of churches to help them with this question, here are the most successful approaches:
- Cover it within existing areas of your budget. Breakthrough is an Assimilation and Evangelism tool, perhaps the finances exist in your current budget already and you simply redirect those funds to this project.
- Cover it through a "Buy One, Give One" challenge. Let your people know about the book and encourage them to "Buy One, Give One" — buy one for themselves and one for a future first-time guest for a total of $20. And then expand it to offer "Buy One, Give Two" for $30 or "Buy One, Give Four" for $50. Remind people that it's an investment in the future evangelism and outreach of the church.
- Approach one or a few people and ask them to each cover 100 copies. One person might cover all 500 or 1000 copies. Or ask a handful of people to each cover 250 copies.
- Add it to your special offering. Whether it's a Christmas Offering or another special offering, add in the Breakthrough project as an evangelism and assimilation investment that will make a difference for the next year.
- Get started with a case of regular Breakthrough books. First prove that they work as a "better" gift for your first-time guests and then work to get a custom version in next year's budget or special offering (see ideas above).
- Pay for it yourself. Not an option for most of us, but sometimes the Lord provides and you personally feel led to do it.
- Pray and ask God to show you - He will guide your steps and open up a door for pursuing this project. Trust me, I've seen this happen many times!
